Chlamydia

Chlamydia is the most frequently reported bacterial sexually transmitted disease in Utah and in the United States. It is now recognized as one of the most common and most damaging of all STDs seen in the nation today. Chlamydia is ranked as the number one most reported communicable disease in the State of Utah. In 2007 there were 5,721 newly reported cases of chlamydia in Utah; 3,748 of those cases (66%) were diagnosed in individuals between the ages of 15 and 24. Underreporting is substantial because many people with chlamydia are not aware of their infections and do not seek testing.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is a very common infectious disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that more than 700,000 people in the U.S. get new gonorrhea infections each year; only about half of these infections are reported to the CDC. In 2007 there were 821 newly reported cases of gonorrhea in Utah; 572 of those cases (70%) were documented in individuals between the ages of 15 and 29.
